The Purpose of Holango

Holango’s mission is to help you learn as many words as possible in your chosen language. Currently, the platform supports 22 languages, aiming to make vocabulary learning interesting, effective, and freely accessible to everyone.

How Does It Work?

That’s a great question, and we’d like to clarify it in this summary 🙃

Creating and Using Vocabularies

On Holango, vocabularies are created based on language pairs. For instance, teachers can create an English-Hungarian or Spanish-French vocabulary set. Once a vocabulary is created, students can add it to their personal library and begin learning.

Sets

Sets consist of vocabularies, often within the same topic or strongly related themes. In sets, vocabularies must be learned in a specific order. For example, a “House” set might include vocabularies for the living room, kitchen, and bathroom, and you progress through the set sequentially. While a set may cover a single topic, the difficulty level of the vocabularies within it can vary.

Learning with Gamified Exercises

Holango offers 7 different gamified tests to help you effectively master vocabularies. These games range from simple to challenging, ensuring there’s something for everyone:

Picture-Based Learning: Identify the word that corresponds to the image.

Word-to-Picture Matching: Match the known word to the correct image.

Multiple-Choice Tests: Look at an image and choose the correct word from four options.

Audio-Based Recognition: Listen to the spoken word and identify it from the available options.

Writing Practice: Type the correct word based on the given prompt; this is the most challenging task.

Joining Classes

Students can join classes led by teachers. If you are a member of a class:

Progress Tracking: The teacher can see your results and monitor your progress.

Assignments: If there is a direct connection between you and the teacher, they can send tasks and messages through the system to guide your learning.

Messaging: You can reply to the teacher’s messages and complete the assigned tasks.

Learning Assigned Materials

When part of a class, the teacher can assign specific vocabulary sets or collections to the class. These assignments may be optional or mandatory, depending on whether you are learning within a school framework.

Points and Progress

Holango uses a gamified point system to motivate students:

Experience Points (XP): Earn XP for completing tasks and mastering new words.

Flow Points: Gain Flow points by logging in daily, which track your streak of consecutive learning days.

Tips for Effective Learning

1. Familiarize Yourself with the Vocabulary: Review the words and their meanings on the vocabulary summary page before starting the tests.

2. Practice Gradually: Begin with simpler tasks and move on to more challenging ones, such as writing exercises.

3. Stay Consistent: Log in daily to maintain your Flow streak and make steady progress.

Searching for Vocabularies

If students wish to find vocabularies and sets, they can use the Search Menu, where a wide variety of options are available. By default, the search menu is set to the language pair specified during registration—the language they already know and the one they want to learn.

Customizing Your Search

If students want to explore vocabularies in other languages:

1. Go to the Search Menu: Click on the search icon or navigate to the search section.

2. Adjust Language Preferences: A search form will appear where you can select:

• The language you want to learn.

• The language you already know.

Once these settings are selected, the system will generate a new search result list based on the chosen language pair.

Adding Vocabularies to Your Library

From the search results, students can browse the available vocabulary sets. They can then select the ones they like and add them to their personal library for further learning.

This flexible search system allows students to expand their learning opportunities across multiple languages and find vocabularies tailored to their needs.

Diverse Vocabulary Options

One of Holango’s key features is its wide variety of vocabularies. For each topic, multiple vocabulary sets are available, tailored to different user proficiency levels, ensuring everyone can find content suited to their needs.

Level-Based Vocabularies

Vocabularies are categorized into three main levels:

A Level: For beginners, focusing on basic and essential vocabulary.

B Level: For intermediate learners, introducing more complex words and phrases.

C Level: For advanced learners, featuring specialized and nuanced vocabulary, ideal for achieving fluency or preparing for high-level language exams.

Searching Vocabularies by Level

When searching for vocabularies:

1. Go to the Search Menu.

2. Use the Filters: Select your preferred level (A, B, or C) on the search form.

3. Browse Results: The results will align with your selected level, showing vocabulary sets suited to your learning stage and exam preparation needs.

By offering multiple vocabulary sets per topic and enabling level-based searches, Holango ensures that learners of all backgrounds and ambitions can effectively achieve their language goals. Whether you’re just starting or preparing for an advanced language certification, Holango provides the resources you need to succeed!
