Registration

Registering on Holango is a simple and fast process. The following steps will guide you through the registration process:

1. Selecting a Language

When choosing to register, the user is directed to a language selection page where a list of all supported languages is available. First, they must select their primary language, which is the language they know and speak. This will be their native language in the system.

2. Choosing a Target Language

After selecting the primary language, users must choose the target language they wish to learn.

3. Providing Personal Information

After selecting the languages, the user must fill in the required information for registration. If the chosen username already exists in the system or the provided email address is already registered, the system will notify the user with a message.

4. Email Confirmation

5. Finalizing the Account

By clicking the link in the email, the user is automatically redirected to the Holango registration page, where the registration is confirmed automatically.

6. Login

After confirmation, the user is taken to the login page. Here, they can enter the username and password created during registration to access their account.

Vocabulary Creation

Creating new vocabularies in the Holango system is simple and quick. Below is a step-by-step guide to creating vocabularies. A vocabulary is a fundamental element of the system. It consists of words that users can learn. Each vocabulary includes a source language and a target language. Vocabularies can be assigned to sets or used individually.

1. Step One

Navigate to the Materials menu and click on New Vocabulary.

2. Select Languages

On the vocabulary creation page, first select the language you know and then the one you want to learn.

3. Enter Basic Information

Enter the title of the vocabulary and a short description in both languages.

4. Tags and Settings

To make the vocabulary easier to find, add relevant tags, set the proficiency level required to consider the vocabulary complete, and specify the language level.

5. Add a Cover Image

Select a cover image for the vocabulary, which will appear in the preview.

6. Image Settings

After selecting an image, you can crop it to a square format using the image cropping tool. When done, click Accept and Upload, then save your vocabulary by clicking Save.

7. Vocabulary is Ready

You have successfully created your first vocabulary. If you return to it later, you will find it under your vocabularies. You can add words by clicking on the Add Words option.

8. Batch Word Addition

Words can be added in two ways. The first is automated addition, where you enter words separated by semicolons in the word field, and the system automatically translates and adds them to the list.

9. Word List

After bulk uploading, the system adds each word individually. You can modify them if the translation is incorrect.

10. Add Words Individually

The second method is adding words one by one. Click on the Add Another Word button at the bottom of the page to add more words at any time. When you start typing the desired word in the source language, the system suggests known words, and you can select from these.

11. Translations

You can choose from the suggested translations or enter your own word. If the word already exists in the system, you can select a suitable translation from the options provided.

12. Select an Image

For words that already have images uploaded, the system automatically suggests images. If one is suitable, you can assign it to the word by clicking on it.

13. Upload Custom Images

You can also upload your own images by clicking Upload Your Own Image. After selecting a file, you can resize the image and finalize it by clicking Accept and Upload.

14. Done

Once you are finished, click Done at the bottom of the page. Your vocabulary is now complete. The system will then redirect you to the vocabularies page, where you can view all your previously created vocabularies.

Creating a Set

Creating sets is almost identical to creating vocabularies, as there are very few differences between them. While vocabularies contain words, sets contain vocabularies.

1. Step One

Go to the “Resources” menu and select “New Set.”

2. Select Languages

As with creating vocabularies, you need to specify the language pair you want to use and fill out the titles and descriptions in both languages.

3. Tags and Level

Sets can be found by their names or tags. The system automatically suggests existing tags, but you can create new ones. Separate tags with commas or press Enter. Here, you can also set the level of vocabularies included in the set and decide whether the set will be public or private.

4. Image Settings

Just like with vocabularies, it is recommended to upload an image for the set. It looks better and helps users quickly identify the set if the image reflects its content.

5. Set is Complete

After uploading an image, the set is ready. However, it is not yet usable—you can either upload vocabularies later or select vocabularies by clicking the Add Vocabularies button.

6. Vocabulary List

To add vocabularies to a set, select from the list displayed under the search box. By default, only your vocabularies are visible, but enabling the display of community vocabularies makes those created by others accessible as well.

7. Vocabulary Search

You can search for vocabularies using keywords and tags, and refine the search by setting the native and foreign languages, as well as the level or list. Enabling community vocabularies provides even more options.

8. Add or Remove Vocabularies

From the displayed results, you can add vocabularies to your set using the blue plus icon or remove them using the red minus icon.

9. Arranging Vocabulary Order

After adding vocabularies, click Show Only Selected under the set description at the top of the page. This opens a view where only the vocabularies added to the set are shown. You can rearrange them using the icon with three horizontal lines. The order is essential to guide learners in the planned sequence. To add more vocabularies, click All Vocabularies to return to the search tool.

10. Managing Sets

Your sets can be found under My Sets in the Materials menu. You can edit, delete, or modify a set’s vocabularies by clicking the gear icon next to it in the list.

Creating a School

Schools are a fundamental part of the system, allowing for the creation and management of classes. While schools are not visible to all users, they play a key role, especially for teachers. Every teacher can create a school, even with the free plan, which allows one school creation.

1. First Step

Schools are created in the My Schools section by clicking the New School button.

2. Registering a School

To register a school, you need to provide its name, city, and exact address. You can also set the school’s status as private or community:
Community Schools: Anyone can create classes within the school.
Private Schools: Only authorized teachers can create classes within the school.

3. Managing Schools

Once created, the school will appear under My Schools, where you can view all schools you have created. From this page, you can access associated classes, students, and teachers, and modify school data using the gear icon.

4. Inviting Teachers

For private schools, you can invite teachers who will teach in the school. Invitations can be sent using the Copy Invitation Link option under the gear icon. Public schools do not require teacher invitations to create classes.

5. Sending Invitations

Copy the invitation link and share it with teachers through any communication channel, such as email or chat apps. When a teacher opens the link, they will see a welcome page where they can join the school.

6. Approving Applications

To ensure only desired teachers join your school, you need to approve pending applications. This can be done by clicking View Teachers in the school list under My Schools, where you can approve or ban teachers. Teachers can only create classes in your school after their applications are approved or if your school is public.

Creating a Class

On the Holango platform, creating classes allows you to organize teaching within a structured framework. Below is a step-by-step guide to creating and managing classes:

1. Creating a Class

Navigate to the My Classes section under the Materials or School menu and click the green New Class button.

2. Providing Information

To create a class, you need to fill in the following details:
• Class Name: A clear identifier for the class.
• Short Description: A brief overview of the class’s purpose or content for students.
• Native and Target Languages: Specify the two languages the class will use.
• School: Choose from schools you’ve joined, public schools, or schools you created.

3. Saving the Class

After entering the information, the class is created, and you can copy its link to share with students who wish to join.

Administering Classes

Classes help students learn words in a structured manner and allow teachers to monitor student progress.

1. Inviting Students

Send the class link, displayed upon saving the class, to the students you wish to join. Once they accept, their applications will appear in the My Classes widget on the homepage or in the My Classes list.

2. Class List

In the My Classes submenu under the School menu, you can see a list of your classes. Here, you can quickly identify pending student applications (indicated by a red icon) and approve them by clicking the icon or using the View Pending Members link in the gear menu.

3. Approval

Approve pending members to grant them access to the class.

4. Viewing Members

Click the View Members option from the gear icon or the green button in the class row to see the list of students in the class. Clicking on a student’s name brings up their profile page, where you can track their progress.

5. Student Profile

On this page, you can send messages and view all vocabulary and set results assigned to the class. If a vocabulary or set is removed from the class, its results will no longer appear here.

6. Viewing the Student Page

Access the student page for the class by clicking the gear icon in the current row of the class list. This is the page students see, where the teacher can also assign materials to the class.
